Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions, answered.
How do I get started?
Getting started with therapy always feels so complicated! Depending on your payment preferences and/or insurance plan will help to determine what billing service we use. Send me a message on my 'Contact' page with your basic information to request a free initial consultation and I can help guide you through the first steps.
How much will sessions cost?
Session costs depend on how you are covering sessions (insurance or self-pay). I am in network with several insurance plans (see “Payment” page for details). My current self-pay rate is $100/session, though I may offer a sliding scale option on a case-by-case basis.
What can I expect from my first session?
Excellent question! You can generally expect the first session to focus on getting to know you—understanding your initial concerns, building a sense of trust and comfort, and gathering helpful background information. Together, we will also start to explore what you hope to gain from therapy and identify goals that feel meaningful and supportive to your journey.
How long does therapy take?
Unfortunately there is not always an easy, specific timeline. The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, needs, and the issues being addressed. Some clients benefit from short-term support, while others engage in longer-term therapy.
I'm under 18 - is my therapist going to tell my parents everything I say?
The short answer is no! While there are exceptions to confidentiality in therapy (immediate risk to yourself, risk of you harming someone else, illegal behavior, or suspected abuse), therapy should be a place you feel able to share your thoughts and feelings without fear or punishment. This is definitely something we go over during your initial appointments with both clients and parents.
